The début of the FW 20/21 capsule collection
created by the English designer
New partnership for Marina Rinaldi that entrusts Antonio Berardi with the task of interpreting the brand’s values for the FW 20/21 season. The intense, strong-willed look of the designer of Italian origin is the protagonist of this first capsule collection, followed by a second chapter for SS 2021.
During Milan Fashion Week on 19-23 February, the showroom of the maison will be transformed into a space of essential magnetism where Marina Rinaldicreations byAntonio Berardi will appear in the midst of a sophisticated interplay of mirrors.
Born in the United Kingdom to Sicilian parents, and for years a standout in the international fashion scene, for this collection the designer took inspiration from some of his most iconic pieces, often worn by women of unquestionable allure and charisma, and then redesigned them to fully convey the Marina Rinaldi look.
“This project is a window that opens wide onto two worlds – mine and Marina Rinaldi’s – which share a true affinity. For me it’s a homecoming, because I have a sincere bond with the fashion house ever since about 25 years ago I first went into a brand boutique to buy a gift for my mother. It was a great discovery, the entrance into a world of women, curvy or otherwise, all so glamorous”, explains Berardi.
The début capsule fully respects the identities of both, confronting the need for modernity intrinsic to fashion. And paying the utmost attention to the collection’s details, even those that are less evident.
Jackets featuring trompe l’oeil lapels with well-designed proportions on the body have sleeves designed to reveal refined gloves embellished with a chain-bijou appliqué, a distinctive mood element, like the important golden multi-chain necklaces. The blazers go with waisted skirts, sleeveless mermaid dresses or slim trousers that extend to just above the ankle. Sensual lacing inspired by corsets enriches the back of jackets and the hips of skirts and pencil dresses.
The knitwear is elegant thanks to the viscose solid knit. The silk chiffon is printed with a pattern reminiscent of the marbled perfumed papers that once lined drawers. It can be found on dresses embellished at the neckline by a large bow, which can also be worn loose, whose detachable inner linings can also be worn as an under-jacket top.
The gold sandals with high, slim heels complete the mood, recalling the chain motif.
The face of the capsule collection is the American supermodel Guinevere Van Seenus, whose soft yet slender figure reaffirms a fundamental concept for the brand: Marina Rinaldi dresses all women, paying always great attention to the many different body types.
