With Ramadan approaching and the seasons shifting from Winter into Spring, Abaya and Jalabiya styles are once again, taking inspiration from the latest International Fashion runway trends to perfectly fuse traditional design with modern elements.
At various Abaya exhibitions that recently took place in Qatar, showcasing the latest Abaya and Jalabiya Ramadan collections for 2025, these are the top 6 trends that I observed that has been culturally adapted into modern abaya styles drawing inspiration from the International runway trends for Spring 2025.
1- Embellish me
Elaborate and intricate detailing symbolizing luxury and sophistication can be seen in the latest Ramadan Abaya and Jalabiya collections. Artisanal handwork such as incorporating metallic gold or silver thread into embroidery work, tassel detailing, and shimmering beadwork for fabric motifs and on the oversized cuffs and the collars of abayas are trending this Ramadan.
2- Florals and graphic prints
Screen printed, digital graphic, and embroided floral and bold graphic prints will be a popular choice this Ramadan in jalabiya and abaya styles. Matching printed abaya and shayla in flowing fabrics make this a versatile choice for spring and Ramadan. Tapestry style, pretty floral fabrics spotted on various 2025 International runways may also be spotted in jalabiya styles this Ramadan.
3- Colour
Classic and timeless colours such as black, light grey and neutrals will always stay in fashion in abaya styling. New additions this season to the color spectrum spotted on the International fashion runways are pastel pink, buttermilk yellow and denim blue. Jalabiya style dresses have more colour integrated into the fabric design that has a feminine and playful touch.
4-Flowing silhouettes
Light and wispy premium fabrics that are modest with flattering cuts to the figure was spotted in various collections. Silks and chiffons in fluid and organic shapes, organic cottons and breathable linens adds a luxurious touch to any abaya and jalabiya design. Lightweight Drapery was heavily spotted on several 2025 resort collections including Stella Mc Cartney and will be a popular choice in abaya and jalabiya styles this Ramadan.
Tailoring:
5- Tailoring and the 90’s minimalist power suit is here to stay from last season. But with a twist, fabrics will be more flowing and lightweight as opposed to last seasons heavier velvets and tweeds. Oversized cuffs in two-tone shades, plain, or embellished cuffs or collars will also continue into this season. Coat style abayas in more classic a-line/ straight designs or breezy tailored coat styles will still prove popular. Structured, classic blazer style abayas with clean lines will keep you smart and stylish from the office to an iftar event.
Kimono Style
6- A fusion between East and West, flowing feminine kimono style abayas and jalabiyas will be a versatile choice this Ramadan. Flowing kimono batwing styles, to wrap around styles in chiffons, satins and silks with delicate side ties in shades of baby blue, pinks, creams, and dark florals add a classic and feminine touch to this trending style.
Middle Eastern Women are on the top of the fashion game this season, with trends adapted from International fashion runways, perfectly integrated into Abaya and Jalabiya styles this Ramadan.
