NEW TOP DUO FOR THE WALDHOTEL BY BÜRGENSTOCK: CHRISTIAN AND NATHALIE SCHARRER STRENGTHEN KITCHEN AND SERVICE

The Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne welcomes Christian and Nathalie Scharrer, two renowned personalities of top gastronomy. From November 2025, the duo will be responsible for the gastronomic management of the Waldhotel by Bürgenstock.

Starting on 1 November 2025, Christian and Nathalie Scharrer will take on central roles at the Waldhotel by Bürgenstock. As Chef de Cuisine Waldhotel, Christian Scharrer will be responsible for the entire culinary line in the future – from the Verbena restaurant and the Verbena Bar to the breakfast offer and the innovative Cooking Lab. Nathalie Scharrer will take over the management of the service team as Restaurant & Room Service Manager at Verbena and will play a key role in shaping the guest experience in all gastronomic areas of the Waldhotel by Bürgenstock. Together, they contribute their extensive expertise in cuisine and service – and set new impulses for the culinary offer in the name of enjoyment and hospitality. From March 2026, guests can expect a new culinary concept – the official announcement will follow. “We are very happy to be part of this special place in the future. Our common vision for the gastronomic offer at the Waldhotel is to create an experience in which cuisine and lived hospitality are in harmony – with cuisine that inspires and service that touches,” say Christian and Nathalie Scharrer.

A top duo with experience and vision

Christian Scharrer is one of the most distinguished chefs in the German-speaking world. Born in the Black Forest, he was head chef at the Imperial restaurant in the Schlosshotel Bühlerhöhe and at the multi-award-winning Buddenbrooks Restaurant at the A-ROSA Resort in Travemünde. He received his greatest influence in recent years at the Weissenhaus Private Nature Luxury Resort in Germany, where he led the fine-dining restaurant Courtier to two Michelin stars and four black toques in Gault&Millau as head chef. His cooking philosophy: seasonal, creative, well-founded – with a clear signature that focuses on the product and yet always keeps the guest in mind.

At his side is Nathalie Scharrer, whose career stands for excellent service, leadership skills and hospitality at the highest level. After working at the Schlosshotel Bühlerhöhe, the Imperial Restaurant, the A-ROSA Resort Travemünde and the Hotel Eden Roc Ascona, among others, she took over the management of the Courtier restaurant on Weissenhaus in 2016. Her sovereignty in dealing with discerning guests, her eye for detail and her deep understanding of the interplay of cuisine and service make her a hostess with extraordinary tact.

“With Christian and Nathalie Scharrer, we are gaining a well-rehearsed top duo that combines cuisine and service at the highest level. Together, we will further develop the culinary profile of the Waldhotel – in line with our vision for the entire Bürgenstock Collection. I am very much looking forward to the cooperation and the new impulses they bring to our resort,” says Mike Wehrle, Corporate Culinary Director Bürgenstock Collection. Christian will work with Mike Wehrle as head chef with operational responsibility, while Nathalie will be in close contact with the F&B Director in her role as Restaurant & Room Service Manager.

The Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne stands not only for incomparable views and world-class Swiss hospitality, but also for an extraordinary culinary variety. In twelve restaurants, lounges and bars, guests can experience top international cuisine at the highest level – from sharing-style dishes at the award-winning Spices Kitchen & Terrace to Persian creations at the stylish Parisa – Persian Cuisine bin and locally sourced specialties from the wood-fire grill at the Oak Grill & Pool Patio. Whether alpine down-to-earthness or worldly sophistication – the focus is always on the combination of quality, authenticity and experience.
