Omega has always been the timekeeper when it comes to supporting the best athletes in the world. The bond between Omega and sports continues to push boundaries due to the indisputable results for tracking and distributing timely results –that’s exactly where the role of Omega emerges.
On a starry evening in Doha, the four Omega ambassadors who are also high profile athletes visited the Omega boutique for Diamond League attendance and shared some vivacious moments with us.
Noah Lyles
A young dynamic sprinter well-known for his achievements in various sports events shared his excitement about the new sports season in Doha.
‘You never know what’s gonna happen.’ Cheered Noah. According to him, there’s always a nerve-wracking moment at the first meet of the season.
Noah’s name has been taken as a worthy successor of Usain Bolt. He’s been featured regularly in 200m race where he consistently led the pack since 2017. Noah is also featured along with Christian Coleman in the 100m dash.
During the men’s 200-meter final, Noah Lyles wore an Omega Aqua Terra ‘Ultra Light’. This powerful marvel weighs just 55gm –that’s about the weight of two AA batteries.
Noah explained his experience of wearing this remarkable timepiece on his big day.
‘When I was approached with the idea, especially of wearing a watch while competing, I was a little bit kind of timid.’
However, when he got his hands on the Ultra Light watch that he was to compete in, things changed.
‘I almost forgot that it was on my wrist and I started to jump in and it’s a really cool thing to kind of mix luxury fan with something sporty.’ Lyles told us.
Most Memorable Omega Moments
Winning the world championships with his favorite Omega timepiece is surely the best ones for Noah. He wore ‘Speedmaster Dark side of the moon’ on his victory days.
Why Omega?
Noah Lyle has been Omega ambassador since January 2019. We asked Noah about his fondness with Omega.
‘It’s a very iconic brand with lots of history and with ground breaking technologies. Omega is a true supporter of track and field and the Olympics and their innovations are key to the sport.’ Noah appreciated the brand for its workability.
Of course, considering that the winner of a 200-meter race is often decided by nano seconds –you don’t want any extra weight to slow you down. You just need the right one to help you track and measure on the spot.
Thomas Rohler
Starting his career early as a child in 1998, Thomas Rohler mainly competes as a high and triple jumper. He has been an Olympic gold medalist with a throw of 90.30meters and also a European champion.
Thomas shared his thoughts about the event.
‘At the moment, it’s exciting for me, it’s like a restart. I’m still keeping expectations because I know that to compete in a technical event with the forces with the speed, you need some competition experience, but it’s still Javelin, so anything can happen. We experienced enough to really get the technique going when it’s and when do you need it.’
Thomas had been injured before but been preparing for a powerful comeback.
‘Training has been going well since October. I’m grateful to be back on the big circuit first and foremost. Thank you to my own body for responding well again.’ Rohler said.
Most Memorable Omega Moment
Having ‘Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Black’ as his most favorite timepiece, Omega has been Thomas’s race partner in his victory games. His most unforgettable omega moment was winning the Olympic gold medal in Rio 2016.
Why Omega?
Thomas has been an Omega ambassador since January 2020. To him, the quality of this brand is their grasp of precision and luxury design that is paired with a deluxe and active lifestyle look.
Armand “Mondo” Duplantis
Coming from athletic family background, Armand is a vaulter since age three and represented Sweden at World Championships in Cali, Colombia, and won a gold medal. He won silver medal in 2019 and broke two world records in 2020.
Armand has been titled ‘Best male athlete of the year’ for his outstanding performances in 2020 and became Olympic champion in 2021 and 2022 while breaking his own world record with a current best mark at 6.20m.
Mondo’s stance on the event and his training is really strong;
‘Doha is the perfect meeting to kick off my outdoor season. My training has gone well over the winter.
Although it’s early season, I think the conditions in Doha will be conducive to jumping high. I cleared 5.82m at this meeting in 2020, so I would certainly like to get closer to 6.00m this time around.’
The Unforgettable Omega Moment
For Mondo, the world record was something he really adores and it’s really special. However, his forever love is winning the European Championship gold medal when he was just 18. In addition to it, his victory in Tokyo is also what keeps as an unforgettable memory in his career.
Being the Omega ambassador since January 2020, Mondo likes to wear the ‘Seamaster Diver 300m’ Omega timepiece as his sports partner.
Why Omega?
‘The watches are just flat-out bangers,’ Mondo put it in a nutshell. We also have a Seamaster from the 1960s running in our family so there’s always been a family tie to OMEGA.
Gianmarco Tamberi
An Italian high jumper and an Olympic champion –Tamberri has been coached by his father. However, Tamberri kept his unique style and chose his own success path for his career.
In a rare instance in Olympic history at Tokyo 2020, Tamberri shared victory with Qatari athlete Mutaz Essa Barshim. Tamberri also won European indoor title in 2019 and become the first Italian athlete in history by winning the diamond trophy in Wanda Diamond League in 2021 season.
Having been inspired by endurance of the famous basketball player IYacy McGrady, Tamberri likes to strive till the last moment of the game and keeping up his sportsman spirit.
Favourite OMEGA timepiece? We asked Tamberri.
‘That’s an easy answer. The Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition.
It’s just amazing, and it reminds me how much I went through to achieve my amazing Olympic result.’
Why Omega?
According to Tamberri, his Omega story is just amazing. It’s a world leading brand high-end materials and technology.
‘I feel I have a lot in common with this brand and I’m proud to wear it.
We both work hard to make the difference in small details. We are our own competitors, because our goal is to be better every single day.’
