With more than two and a half million followers on Instagram, Reem Abu Samra is one of the most influential bloggers in the travel domain. Her travel destinations vary, so that with every trip, there is a new story that she conveys through images to her followers. Those who follow her notice a difference in the content she provides; it is neither excessive nor vulgar, but rather presents the world in an image.
Upon being asked how she opts for her destination and how she shares the experience with her followers, she told us that she has a constant passion for diversifying places and visiting new ones. Every time, she focuses on acquiring a culture or recalling a memory of a place she had previously visited. She is also keen to provide followers with short and expressive photos and videos without verbal comments, as the image is always more expressive and meaningful than speech, and the video is more realistic as it carries the followers to a place and makes them feel its beauty. One of the most important reasons why she focuses on videos and images is that her followers are of different nationalities and speak multiple languages. That is, she aims at addressing everyone, especially since she prefers the visual language for its ease of understanding.
Among the most important places that she visited this year was Rome, the city she admires. It is not her first visit to Rome, but every time she visits, she views it differently, finding new things to enjoy. She is captivated and fascinated by the nobility of that city and the beauty of its places. It is more than a tourist destination. It is a historical icon. She chose to stay at the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria, which is distinguished by its large gardens inspired by the Mediterranean style and its view that looks out on the capital, Rome, and the Vatican State from its location on a hilltop in the Riserva naturale di Monte Mario.
Speaking about how she handpicks clothes and what her main focus is in the first place, she said that she chooses cozy and comfortable clothes, taking into account the nature of the place she is visiting. This does not mean that all her looks are casual, as she might be invited to evening parties or attend wedding parties while traveling. What matters for her is that the costumes should be comfortable, elegant and colorful, as colors add a character of joy.
Among the crucial tips that Reem gave to women was to enjoy the place and not be overly preoccupied with how they should appear on social media pages. Documentation and taking photos are important but are not the main goal. “We must live all the details,” she said, “explore a new culture, try dishes that we have not tried before, have adventures, and try to integrate with the indigenous people of the place to get to know them more”.
From her viewpoint, it is important to have positive energy when traveling and adapting to everyone as the main goal is enjoyment and learning from new experiences. We may have to move in different ways, such as walking sometimes, and we may face unpredictable and difficult climatic conditions. Our first and last goal is to enjoy our time, explore, and learn about different cultures.
